Vikki's Chuck Roast

Sear a Chuck roast in a very hot cast iron skillet in a little olive oil.  Salt and pepper it. After all sides are seared, put it in the crock pot.   Add 2 cups of beef broth to the skillet, stir it around.  Add a sliced onion. (you can add carrots and celery if you want).  Add 1 brown gravy packet, 1 dry ranch packet, some garlic powder and paprika.  Pour that over the Chuck roast and cook on low for 8 hours.
