Portuguese Pot Roast

1 (4 lb.) boneless roast
2 onion, cut
2 gloves garlic, crushed
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 cup white wine
1/2 cup water
1 tsp. wine vinegar
1/3 lb. bacon
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
3 bay leaves
1 tbsp. crushed red pepper (the liquid kind)
1/2 tsp. Portuguese all spice

Place all ingredients in baking casserole dish and cover. Bake at 300 for 3 1/2 hours.
